ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SECURITY:  

The Westchester Community College Faculty Student Association 

is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director of Campus Security. Under the direction of the Director of Campus Security, this position is responsible for the general protection of personnel, buildings, grounds, equipment, and funds at Westchester Community College.  

The Associate Director is also responsible for the direct supervision of security office staff and for overseeing services provided by the contract security staff.  The Associate Director is expected to perform the duties of the Director when the Director is unavailable.

  1. A.     NATURE OF WORK

 

The Security Technology Project Manager reports to the Associate Director of Technology & Emergency Communications for the Division of Public Safety. This position provides guidance and project management oversight for University-wide security technology projects; works with the building administrators of schools and centers, as well as with facilities managers, in providing coordinated safety and security services; responsible for the delivery of quality assurance and customer satisfaction; responsible for benchmarking the best in class security and technology services; manages in-house security parts  inventory ensuring that adequate supplies and parts are available, provides inventory updates on all completed projects to the Administrative Coordinator.  Moreover, individual serves as the representative of the Division of Public Safety at all security related meetings and is to immediately notify immediate supervisor of all sensitive security issues raised during any and all security meetings, must document minutes of all meetings, and assist in conducting and tracking the results of weekly status update meetings on all projects with the University’s security vendor.

Reviews and recommends security project proposals, specifications, drawings and quotations to the Associate Director and Director of Technology & Emergency Communications, represents Public Safety at security installation projects and ensures that university security construction and installation standards and customer’s needs are addressed in accordance with Public Safety recommended security standards.

 

  1. Oversees security project processes, progress, costs, and quality control and provides timely security project status reports to superiors on a regular basis.

 

  1. Meets and works with area managers of university schools/centers, facilities services/ project managers and security integrators to provide guidance and oversight on security technology matters.

 

  1. Ensures compliance with public safety security standards, policies and procedures. Investigates violations and takes appropriate corrective action.  Investigates, mediates and responds to problems and disputes between university entities and security contractors.
  1. Ensures seamless coordination and delivery of all security technology services.

 

  1. Ensures the DPS security infrastructure is properly maintained by the security technology administrators and contractors. 

 

  1. Provides asset management of the security technology service stock inventory.

 

  1. Provides on-call support for any security technology related issues.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

  1. C.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

 

The Security Technology Project Manager must have a thorough knowledge of security systems including accesscontrol, burglar alarm, CCTV and emergency phone applications, as well as system configurations and design.  The person must have experience in project management and ability to read and understand blue prints and schematic drawings in order to identify points where security systems are recommended.  Education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years project management experience, which includes experience in project coordination and security system design, is required.  In addition, this position must possess excellent communication and listening skills and should be “people oriented” and have fine-tuned problem solving and decision making skills.  An understanding of higher education environments is preferred. Although not mandatory, candidates should be certified as either a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or as a Physical Security Professional (PSP). The Security Technology Project Manager must be effective in representing the Division of Public Safety in working with university customers and potentially with outside business partners.
